Research in IBEST focuses on the dynamics of rapid evolution with an explicit integration of empirical and theoretical approaches. IBEST research spans multiple disciplines (e.g., Biology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry), addresses many levels of biological organization (e.g., genes, cells, organisms, species and ecosystems), and uses a variety of techniques and approaches (e.g., experimental evolution, computational genomics, computer simulations, mathematical modeling, field biology). IBEST researchers also develop new theory, algorithms, and statistical techniques for solving complex empirical problems.
