Welcome to the IBEST Wiki. This is a resource for members of IBEST (Initiative for Bioinformatics and Evolutionary Studies) at the University of Idaho.

You can see the current events page for this week's list of seminars and regular meetings.

CITE IBEST!

Please remember to cite our infrastructure grants in publications, grant proposals, and presentations. Feel free to cut and paste:

  • If you generate, store, or analyze data on the IBEST Bioinformatics Core; or if you received help from Bioinformatics Core Staff (Celeste Brown, Rob Lyon, Trent Nelson, Colby Blair, or James A. Foster):
Bioinformatics facilities supported by NIH/NCRR P20RR16448 and P20RR016454.
  • If you used the IBEST Sequencing Core or Staff:
Sequencing facilities supported by NIH/NCRR P20RR16448.
  • If you were supported directly by the IBEST COBRE:
Funding provided by NIH/NCRR P20RR16448.

Also, remember to send a full citation of your publication (including PMID), presentation, or grant proposal to the IBEST Administrative Assistant, Sara Wicks (swicks@uidaho.edu)

If you are citing IBEST online or in a publication and need logos, please use the higher definition logos on this page.

IBEST Users

If you are unable to connect to any of the IBEST Computers using SSH then you may need to get your IP address unblocked. In order to do this you should email Rob Lyon or Trent Nelson the contents of this link This wiki contains alot of information provided by our users.

To find information on how to use the systems or specific programs, use the search feature located on the left.

Computational Facilities and Software

Questions regarding the use of specific software packages should be directed to Celeste Brown

All of the IBEST Systems use Unix based operating systems (Linux, Mac OS, Solaris). This means that you will need to know at least some basic UNIX functionality. A good UNIX tutorial for the beginner can be found here.

James is posting notes about how he uses the system, including the little odd scripts he develops. This might be interesting if you want some examples of how to use Unix systems for bio-stuff, or if you want to see the kind of scripts and programs that someone develops when they have to. I'm not egotistical, and these may not be beautiful scripts, but perhaps someone will benefit from seeing them in the context of a thought process analyzing bio-data. To see this experiment in brain dumping, look here.

Navigate to the Clusters page to view a list of tutorials and utilities related to running on the IBEST Beowulf Clusters. For assistance with the utilities or tutorials contact the Cluster Administrator. These will grow as we continue to write more in-house utilities and create more tutorials.

IBEST website - Advertise for IBEST

The IBEST page is a great place for us to advertise. A way for select users to edit the page is coming, but until then, see the IBEST website wiki page to see how you can help improve the website.
